Madalyn Allee Scott Dearing Vivion, age 105 of California, Missouri, went to be with the lord on December 24, 2015. Madalyn was born on June 6, 1910, on the family farm north of California, to loving parents, Henry and Stella Scott Dearing.

Madalyn went to school in a one-room schoolhouse (Highland) through her elementary years and then went to California High School where she graduated salutatorian of her class of 1928. She played basketball and loved and played all sports available at the time. She was known in high school as the blue-eyed blonde that was always jolly and had a kind word and a smile for everyone. On October 8, 1929, she married Norman Vivion, who preceded her in death July 9, 1959.

Following her high school graduation in 1928, Madalyn taught for one year at the Highland School, and in 1942, she began working at the California Manufacturing Plant, where she eventually retired.

Madalyn and Norman had one child, a daughter, Dorothy Louise Vivion Bolinger born June 19, 1931, on the family farm north of California. Dorothy married Freddie Bolinger and had six daughters who all have married and are still married to their first and only husbands.

Madalyn was raised to know and serve the lord. Her family attended the Brush Creek Baptist Church near their farm where Madalyn played the piano and her father led the music. Since 1954, she has been a member of the Salem Baptist Church. She served the church at Salem in many different ways. She was pianist, choir member, church clerk, VBS teacher, Sunday School teacher, Women’s Missions leader and quilted many quilts with the women’s group. She knew her Bible well, and she started each day with Bible reading and prayer. She lived each day to serve the Lord and those around her.

Madalyn loved to crochet and also created many hand-painted ceramic pieces. Many of her crochet pieces and ceramics were given as gifts to loved ones. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and traveling. She visited many locations in the United States in her travels. Madalyn was a great cook and her family always enjoyed eating the food she prepared.

Although she spent much of her life caring for her loved ones, Madalyn always took care of herself, as well. Her good health and longevity continually amazed those who knew her. She was always content and her cheerful disposition was always evident. She will be remembered for her kindness and gentleness, for her love for the lord and her love for others. We rejoice in the life she lived and in the eternal life she has now entered with our Heavenly Father.

Madalyn is survived by her six granddaughters and their husbands, Kathy and Mike Volkart of Russellville; Cheryl and Jack Knipp of Tipton; Joyce and Norman Rohrbach of California; Brenda and Donnie Sells of Prairie Home; Sara and Rex Hill of California; and Barbara and Dan Kuttenkuler of Festus; 15 great grandchildren, and 32 great, great grandchildren.

Madalyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Clark Dearing, her husband Norman Vivion, her daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and Fred Bolinger, and one grandson, Robbie Knipp.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Salem Baptist Church.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 6 pm at the Phillips Funeral Home, California.  Memorials are suggested to the Salem Baptist Church c/o Phillips Funeral Home, 211 S.
